Eureka Springs artist, Denise Ryan, has developed a reputation for fine portraiture. She is also known for her unusual still life/landscape compositions. She has received many awards in various shows around the country and her work is included in many private and corporate collections.

Stylistically the paintings are representational. Although they appear to be highly illusionistic, the unusual combination of subjective elements, magical settings, brilliant colors and pervasive light quality create a sense of the surreal or metaphysical. "Still life in combination with landscape is the subject which currently holds my fascination. Although unlikely partners, the possibilities become endless for a marriage within the pictorial space of my canvas. I manipulate illusion to create a unique place that exists only within the painting. Choices of objects are based upon color, shape, tone and texture as well as for their prodigious or symbolic qualities. I work primarily in oil and pastel. "
